Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has lauded the Federal Government’s efforts to transform Obudu Cattle Ranch into a major livestock and dairy production hub.
Speaking through his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, during a visit by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Otu described the initiative as a significant step toward agricultural expansion.
Highlighting Obudu’s climate, biodiversity, and landmass as advantages for large-scale livestock farming, the governor emphasized the need for Nigeria to shift from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture.
He stressed that agricultural investments would boost food security, create jobs, and increase foreign exchange earnings.
The Minister of Livestock Development noted Nigeria’s N33 trillion livestock industry remains underutilized and outlined plans for modernizing the sector, including improved disease control and infrastructure expansion.
He described Obudu Cattle Ranch as a strategic asset for the government’s livestock transformation agenda.
Maiha also disclosed a $2.5 billion investment commitment from Brazilian investors to drive innovation in Nigeria’s livestock sector.
The initiative is expected to position Cross River as a key beneficiary of international agricultural funding and drive economic growth in the state.
