Secondary Schools In Cross River South To Compete In 2024 Governor’s Cup

 

Secondary schools in the southern senatorial district of Cross River State are set to compete in the 2024 Governor’s Cup competition.

Special Adviser to the governor on sports, Hon. Ekanem Ekpenyong, disclosed this at the end of a meeting with representatives of secondary schools in the district.

The Special Adviser said fairness in the competition would be upheld, urging participants to avoid any form of cheating.

He said schools are to be responsible for their own logistics to foster a spirit of sportsmanship.

The Adviser also clarified that the competition would showcase the talents and skills of the students.

“Schools shall ensure that only bona fide students are allowed to participate. Any school caught cheating by bringing mercenaries will be suspended from all future sports activities in the state.

“Game Masters are reminded to follow sports regulations regarding timing, identification, and team member arrangement”, he stressed.

Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Agnes Atsu encouraged parents and teachers to avail their children of the opportunity to pursue careers in sports.

Atsu urged everyone involved in the competition to remain committed and supportive throughout the event.

Head of Grassroots Sports at the Cross River State Sports Commission, Mrs. Rosemary Usang, also reminded all school representatives to prioritize the security and welfare of their athletes, stressing that any students caught as mercenaries will be prosecuted.
