Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed optimism that the lingering boundary dispute between Isu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area and its neighbors in Cross River will soon be a thing of the past.

The governor gave this assurance while speaking with journalists at Government House Umuahia and said that his administration recently sent relief materials to the displaced indigenes and other vulnerable people in the affected community.

Otti noted that authorities in Cross River have demonstrated a willingness to resolve the boundary disputes amicably and expressed the hope that lasting peace would be achieved in the boundary communities.

“Boundary disputes sometimes linger, but by the time you share a boundary, it means there is a relationship; you could be brothers and sisters, so I believe we would resolve the problem, given that the two states are favorably disposed,” the Governor said.

In May 2024, armed persons suspected to be from Ukwa community in Cross River State invaded Isu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia, where they killed a woman, Mrs Blessing Kalu Elem, injured over ten persons, and destroyed livestock and other properties.
