Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, have promised a vibrant agriculture agenda.
They spoke yesterday in Calabar at their swearing-in.
Governor Otu acknowledged the challenges of the state, but pledged his commitment to good governance and a vibrant agricultural agenda.
He also acknowledged the insecurity facing the state, noting that his administration will give a window for amnesty and it’s either criminals relocate from the state or they accept the proposed amnesty programme.
The new governor mentioned his commitment to tourism development the state was known for.
He noted its highest environmental standard and cleanliness.
Otu thanked his predecessor, Senator Ben Ayade, for his contributions to the state’s development.
He advised the people to be ready to sacrifice for Cross River’s development.
“I will do all in my power, in the course of discharging my functions, by searching for the best hands wherever they can be found, either in the hinterland, outside the state or in the diaspora. I am therefore calling on all to join hands and make available your contacts of opportunities and resources in building the Cross River of our dream.
“Our rich natural resources, which lie untapped, must be converted to wealth, if we are to offset our debts and still have the sufficiency needed to achieve the season of sweetness we are committed to enjoy,” the governor said.
The event was witnessed by former Governor Clement Ebri, Senator Gershom Bassey, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), Senator Florence Ita Giwa and other dignitaries within and outside the state.
