Hon. Pius Abang Besong Wins Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ikom/Boki House of Representative’s Re-run for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Abang scored 37 votes to defeat his opponent and the Nigerian Bar Association Chairman (Cross River State Branch) Mr Attah Ochinke who got 30 votes.
The result of the re-run held at Ikom Local Government Area was declared by the Returning Officer for the contest, Ike Ogbogu, who urged the contestants to take the result in good faith.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Abang promised to work very hard to ensure that he beats other opponents warming up to contest the Reps seat with the PDP in 2023.
“I shall carry out my campaign with dignity. My greatest appeal is that all party men should join hands with me to ensure that a PDP candidate emerges the winner in the Reps election coming up in 2023,” he said.
He pledged to provide quality representation to the people to make life comfortable for the constituents.
Ochinke had earlier been declared winner of the first primary against Pius Abang and Abang contested the outcome and headed for the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu who declared the election result null and void, alleging that a section of the Electoral Act was violated.
She ordered that a re-run primary be conducted to enable the PDP to pick a candidate for the Reps contest.
