Pupils of St. Benedict’s Primary School, Biakwan in Boki Local Government Area, Cross River State express joy as leaders of Biakwan Light Green Initiative (BLGI), an NGO, embarked on activities aimed at strengthening the capacity of School Based Management Committee (SBMC) for effective Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program implementation in the school.
This is one of the organization’s projects in the host community targeted at boosting WASH in schools and accelerating transformative change by using children as change agents.
Team Leader/Executive Director of BLGI, Mr. Peter Oru Bette called on the school authorities to help to train the young minds and to mobilize the community and other actors towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He noted that the organization would be working with the SBMC and the WASH-based club towards restoring dignity to the environment while improving the health of school pupils.
Mrs. Patricia Eban Etta who stood in for the school's Head Teacher, thanked the organization for partnering with the school on the vital project, promising to ensure that the collaboration is sustained.
Highlights of the occasion included donation of practical manual on tree nursery establishment and landscape management, and the distribution of copies of SDG manual and other strategic behavioral change materials. The donated items are expected to foster effective water, hygiene and landscape development in rural communities.
