INTERVIEW: “My Aspiration is Born Out of Passion to Serve My People” — House of Assembly Aspirant, Kumini

Comrade Kumini Sheriff Otu-Oshibu, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is contesting for a seat at the Cross River State House of Assembly to represent Boki 1 constituency in Boki Local Government Area from 2023.

He is a renowned Media Consultant and Entrepreneur, who believes it's time to focus on his political ambition ahead of the general election in 2023. In this interview with Boki Blog, he explains his journey into politics and how he hopes to effect positive change if given an opportunity or elected as Boki 1 House of Assembly member come 2023 elections.

Below are excepts from the interview.

Please could you introduce yourself to our readers as well as the Boki People?

I am Kumini Sheriff Otu-Osbibu, I hail from Bateriko Village, Boki Local Government in Cross River State. I am a brand manager, a media consultant and an entrepreneur.

If you don't mind Sir, can know about your family and educational background?

Yes, I am the son of Chief Barister Rawland Otu-Osbibu, a former Boki LGA chapter Chairman of the defunct UNCP.

I hold a B. Tech in Mathematics and Computer science from the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State. I also did my compulsory one service to my Country in the same state. I have an MSc inview with the National Open University, studying information Technology

Why did you decide to run for Boki 1 State Constituency?

My decision to run for the State House of Assembly, Boki 1 Constituency is born out of a passion to serve my people. Given the yearnings of our people in recent times for good representation in the state House.

Well, I will thank our previous representatives, they have done their best but the people are saying their best is not good enough.

Take a look at our constituency we have the most dilapidated schools,  Education in our constituency is in its backward state. It doesn't take anything to grant about 100 students in the tertiary institution scholarship each session.
The problem we have faced thus far is our representatives have not bring dividend of democracy to our people.

I am a well traveled person, I see the way other representatives from other states impact their people. So my people have seen me as a good replacement, they believe in me and the call is overwhelming. I couldn't resist so I have to throw my gloves in.

I am abreast with recent trends in the society so my constituency shouldn't be exempted from the global development.

Why running under the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC?

The All Progressive Congress party is a party to reckon with, as the largest party in Africa, it is a party to beat. I am happy with the leader of the the party in the country His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari his achievements cannot be overemphasized.

Also the leader of the party in the state His Excellency Sen Prof Ben Ayade. His Youth inclusion in governance and politics and his industrial revolution of the state is so gearing.
As the saying goes follow who know road. APC is a party to reckon with and I am sure I will be given the mandate. Also my leaders and followers are in APC so I am rest assured I am in the right party

PDP has been a favourite party in Cross River State but with the state Governor moving to the APC, do you strongly believe APC will continue its dominance in 2023?

I am cock sure APC will dominate the state beyond 2023, PDP is dead in the state.

The people needs new breeds, the people are tired of the same routine year in year out, that is the reason why they have embraced APC wholeheartedly. APC has the change the people desire.

How has your experience been in politics so far?

Well, politics to me is not what is required to reach your people. It is a platform to leverage on to impact. I will say my experience thus far has been wonderful given the acceptance by my people. You cannot be in politics if you are not loved.

So I will say it has be a wonderful experience.

Can you tell us how far you have gone in your declaration and campaign preparation?

Yes, the call is overwhelming, I have responded by coming out to communicate my intention to run for State House. We have started consultations and we will do our best to consult widely. Power belongs to the people.

What would you do differently if given the opportunity to contest and be elected in 2023?

As I stated earlier, the people have not felt the dividends of good representation. Gone are the days where we say law makers sole responsibility is to make laws. There is constituency allowance that can be used to impact the people.

I will do my best to impact the students through scholarship, I will touch the needy in our society because I know what it feels like to be in penury.
My people are suffering we need to touch lives. I will also push in making laws that will enable our youths acquire skills and learn different trades. This will go a long way to reduce the level of destruction of our God given heritage, our forest.

Do you support Local Government autonomy?

Well, I will support what is approved by the law.
However Local Government autonomy is not bad.

Which last words do you have for Boki 1 constituents ahead of 2023?

Gone are the days where we are being blindfolded, the right time has come to make right choices, i am the right choice. I thank you all my fellow constituents for your confidence and support thus far. Let's keep faith we will Conquer.
