The Cross River State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has commenced its rotational Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to allow more eligible citizens to have access to registration centers.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the State, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Calabar.
CVR rotation, which kicked off nationwide on March 8, 2022, will see the voter registration exercise by the commission, taken to the ward levels in the State on a rotational basis. This is in addition to the existing 18 area offices at the Local Government level. According to the REC, “this will bring the total number of registration centers in the State to 212.”
The State has 196 political wards. But, the REC’s statement mentioned 193. That, when added to the 18 area offices and the INEC State headquarters, totals 212.
“This exercise will be on (a) rotational basis. The rotational timetable has been published in all the LGA offices, therefore, prospective registrants and others should visit the INEC Area offices to know when it is (the) turn of their community,” the statement read.
All Nigerian citizens 18 years and above are eligible for the exercise. And the statement urged advised, “eligible voters and registered voters to take advantage of the newly created Polling Units to transfer their voting points closer to their homes, to avoid trekking long distances to cast their votes on Election Day and also to decongest the Polling Units.”
Furthermore, the commission advised those who pre-registered online to “complete their registration physically within the given date, if they wish to vote in the 2023 general elections.”
