APC, IGP Lack Powers To Bar Wike From Cross River – Lawmaker

A member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Tonye Smart Adoki, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Inspector-general of Police lack the powers to bar governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, from entering into Cross River State.

APC chairman in Cross River State, Alphonsus Eba, had while addressing journalists in Calabar on Tuesday, called on security agencies to bar Wike from coming into the state.

Adoki in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday said the governor was only in Cross River State to support his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The statement reads in part: “I watched with keen interest as the State Chairman of APC in Cross Rivers State asked security agencies to stop Governor Wike from entering Cross River State.

“Well, it is so unfortunate that he or whoever he has called upon do not have what it takes to restrict any one from his or her right of movement, so long as that person has not violated any law.

Adoki said the fears of the party chairman and his party is based on the fact that Wike is the face of democracy and his presence will do a lot for the PDP in Cross River State bearing in mind that the APC has failed the people of the state and the country.

“Addressing the mammoth crowd that came out for the campaign, Wike was very bold in telling them not to be afraid of the plan of the ruling party which is just to rig and intimidate members of PDP.

“So, if that is the reason why Governor Wike should be stopped from going to Cross River State then I’ll say the chairman is only dreaming. The present government in Cross River got into office with the votes of the masses under the PDP umbrella  but ran with it to another party and they think the masses will be happy?”

He said what happened in Calabar when the PDP machine landed is not just an eye opener but a tip of the iceberg.”
