Vice Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River Central axis, His Youthfulness, Comr. (Engr) Sunnyskipo Nchu has interceded on the brewing unrest in Obubra Local Government Council of Cross River State where it was alleged this morning that some unidentified men launched an attack on police officers stationed at Obubra, consequently leaving four policemen and one soldier reportedly dead.
It was learnt that these bandits had targeted to kill the service men when they engaged them in Ofatura and Onyadama communities of Obubra early today shooting on sight, having carried out a pseudo attack a penultimate night in Mkpani community of Yakurr LGA.
Against this strength, His Youthfulness, Engr. Sunnyskipo, who described the situation as unfortunate warned youths in Obubra as well as Yakurr to rise up and protect their domain against perilous individuals who want to put their relative lives, properties and heritage at risk for no justifiable reason.
The Vice Chairman went further to say that the Youth Council under the leadership of Comr. Dan Obo as State Chairman has done well in ensuring the entire state is safe in collaboration with security agencies, even as he dismissed the assertions moving about in some quarters that the bandits were members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), holding that there is no such group existing in Cross River State but in South Eastern Nigeria and as such, practically impossible for members of the said group to travel all the way from the East only to attack service men in Obubra and Yakurr, Cross River State.
Engr. Sunnyskipo believed the bandits are rogues resident in Obubra/Yakurr, thus, charging all NYCN chapter coordinators in the 6 local government councils of Central Cross River to be vigilant and on the lookout for any suspecting movements, even as he advised, they must report same to relevant authorities, noting that security was everyone's business.
The youth leader also thanked the NYCN coordinators of Obubra and Yakurr chapters for protecting their teritories overtime and charged them to, nonetheless, step-up in ensuring the youths are at alert 247. He, accordingly, thanked the Obubra and Yakurr Local Government Council Chairmen, Hon. Dr. Baddey Tom and Hon. Ofem Obeten, respectively, for what he[Nchu] described as an "excellent job" they are doing in sustaining peace and harnessing development in their respective Council districts.
The young and articulate youth leader did not fail to reiterate the point that; "Central is our heritage and we as young people are the landlords. So, we must at all times protect it jealously and the council under my watch in Central will not take for granted any act of criminality. As such, I want to warn all youths of the district to be law abiding and be of good conduct".
