Cross River Government Raid On Illegal Loggers In Boki LGA, Recover hundreds of logs

The Cross River State Government on Wednesday raided on Illegal logging activities in Boki Local Government Area of the state.

According to information made available to Boki Blog, hundreds of logs have been recovered by the state government.

A detachment of operatives led by the Chairman of Cross River State Forestry Commission, Chief Tony Undiandeye, in collaboration security operatives, stormed the illegal logging areas, along Ikom/Obudu highway in Boki 1 constituency, where they discovered the theft and where a depot of illegally logged and sawn timber was discovered. The Chairman has ordered the consignments seized. As at filling this report, movement of the seized items were being hauled off to Abu police station.

It can be recalled that the Cross River State House of Assembly in July, 2019, resolved that the management of the state’s forest should be handled by the Forestry Commission as provided for by the Cross River State Forest Law 2010 as amended.

Following this resolutions, the Anti-Deforestation Taskforce set up by Gov. Ben Ayade officially announced ban on illegal logging across the state.in May 2020

It can also be recalled earlier this year, the state State Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade tagged illegal logging as ‘Mindless and wicked’ warning illegal loggers of the state's timbers to desist as his administration will come heavily on them.

The storming against illegal loggers in Boki local government area yesterday was the effort of the state Governor through the Chairman of forestry commission, Chief Tony Undiandeye to tackle this level of criminality in the state.

With logs transferred to Abo- Ogbagante Police station of the Boki 1 Police Command, Chief Undiandeye warned persons involved in illegal logging, deforestation, and those parading themselves as taskforce agents to desist from doing so as anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.
