The distinguished Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Sen. Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor has called on the people of Alok and Abankang communities of Ikom Local Government Area to embrace peace and sheath their swords in the spirit of brotherliness. He stated this when he made a visit to both communities to ascertain the state of affairs and level of destruction during the intercommunal clash.
In his words, "I did not come to begin to find out who is wrong or who is correct. I only came here to preach peace, because war has never helped anybody. I have read about wars, even big wars like World Wars. I just came as your Senator, somebody you people voted for to say please, let there be no war again. You people should embrace peace"
The Councilor representing Abanyong ward, Hon. Francis Mgbe spoke as a representative of Abakang Community, he appreciated the Senator for the timely peace visit and assured him that going forward, they'd live in peace and adopt better approaches to resolve any issue without carrying weapons. The Youth leader of Alok Community also thanked the Senator for doing what is expected of a good leader.
Importantly, the people unanimously appealed to the Senator to speak to Government concerning border demarcation so as to ensure lasting peace between them.
