The Senator representing CRS central Senatorial District, Sen. Prof Sandy Ojang Onor paid a solidarity visit to the victims of Ikom market disaster. He was accompanied in the visit by Hon Kingsley Egumi, Chairman Ikom LGA and his ETUNG counterpart Hon.John Nkom Etuk.
Also is this solidarity visit is the Director General of the Caterpillar movement, Hon Chief Joe Obi Bisong, LGA coordinators of Caterpillar Movement for Ikom and Etung, Hon Sunny Ogar Ojong and Hon. Micheal Kajang Obaji respectively.
Sen. prof Sandy Ojang Onor has the following to say;
"As soon as I got wind of the unfortunate incident, i had to abort every other engagement in order to be here with you. I need to come to the market and see the traders and the extend of damage of your valuables.
Recall that When we were campaigning, we came here and you all supported us and we won. So, I'm in the Senate today because you gave me your mandate.
Therefore, when something happens to you, i have to show that I am your representative by coming here very quickly to show solidarity and commitment. We have seen the extent of damage by this fire incident, Please be rest assured that we're going to be one with you on this.The budget has just been signed into law, let me again assure you that all the promises i made in this market during campaigns would be fulfilled because i try not to make promises i cannot keep".
"I believe in my integrity because politics for me is not deceit. I believe in playing politics respecting the people who voted you. So if you cannot do a thing, don't make a promise. If you make a promise, keep the promise".
I thank you all on behalf of all of us. I thank you for your patience with us, for trusting in us and voting for us. I assure you people that by the grace of God, the reason you voted for us, God would enable us to fulfill it and we will continue to show you commitments in Jesus mighty name. Please collect this 2million naira to support you at this critical point of your business life.
In the immediate, I'll be leaving behind the sum of two million naira (#2, 000,000) for the victims. God will help us do more" .
Responding on behalf of the traders, the chairman Ikom Main Market Traders Union (I.M.M.T.U) , Comrd Emmanuel Odigha AKA (No more Heat) thanked the Senator for his kind gesture and for being the first official to come and sympathize with the victims of the inferno. He prayed that the almighty should bless and guide the Senator towards a successful conclusion of his tenure. Mr Kingsley Egumi, the Chairman Ikom Local Government Council equally thanked Distinguished Senator prof Sandy Ojong Onor for showing leadership and described him as the people's Senator indeed.
