The recent wave of defections from PDP to APC currently witnessed in Cross River since the arrival of Sen. John Owan Enoh has penetrated the Boki nation as an appointee of the state government Mr. Willie Tawo Yesterday formally defected with thousands of his supporters in Boje ward, the headquarters of the local government.
Mr. Willie T who resigned his appointment recently as the Director of Roads in the Ayade led government in his remark expressed confidence in his new party as he described his defection as home coming.
According to him "For me it is not defection but home coming to APC because I was part of those who started it all. I am leaving PDP to APC today because our governor who appointed me as state director of road has failed.
The Boje road was conceived by the government of Donald Duke and Imoke started it. Politics is a game of partnership and many of my friends are in APC. To my people of Boje politics is a game of development and I enjoin you to key into the trend. I, on this date in company of about 12 thousands across Boki hereby defect to APC"
Welcoming the defectors, the Chapter chairman of APC in Boki, Mr. Michael described the event as an epoch occasion and thanked the new members for their courage.
He said "Today one of us has decided to join us in the APC. It is an epoch making and APC rejoice with one of us who has joined us today. We know that politics is a game of numbers and we want to take over the state. The process of admitting people into the party is unlimited as our door is opened to welcome all anytime"
Also speaking the Ward Chairman noted that those who are coming into the party makes the job of winning election in the ward easier for them as he said
"APC started like a mustard seed which has now grown into a gigantic tree with everyone wanting to perch on that tree. Those who are coming in are coming to make our job easier. We are going to accept them with open hands"
Addressing the mammoth crowd gathered for the event, the distinguished senator admonished others who are yet to be part of the broom revolution to do same in order to effect the desired change come 2019.
He said "In 2017 through Willie Tawo we are launching Boki for APC. There is an urgent need to rescue Cross River from the disaster that visited us in 2015. Ayade intentions are not honest. PDP as a party in Cross River is tired and APC has become the party of choice in the state.
He equally expressed his dissatisfaction with the numerous appointments which has become a tool for winning 2019 as he said "Ayade's appointment does not translate to any capacity building. I am glad that the change has come to Boje. My mission to Boje today is to search for the one lost sheep, Willie T and encourage the growth of the party".
Sen. Owan used the opportunity to intimate the people of the town hall project which he fought to be captured in the 2017 budget noting that "In the 2017 budget there is a town hall project that will commence in the days ahead. It is important that your ward play the leadership role in Boki".
He thanked the defectors for their courage and admonish the people to keep faith with the APC. He said "Let me thank him for his courage. A man of character who mean what he says cannot be persuaded to change his mind. This broom becomes your symbol of strength and authority. It is going to sweep every corner of your house. The broom revolution is growing in leaps and bounds in Cross River. Everyone is the only platform that will bring the desired change that our state needs. If you believe in development of our state then join the march to the APC"
In his remark a former Adviser to President Yar'adua Prince Ebutta Ayuk urged the people of Boki to take the bull by the horn and join the broom revolution as he described Sen. Owan as a symbol of blessing. He noted "Whatever we are doing here there is the presence of God. Our visit here is no joke. Sen. Owan is an embodiment of blessing and that's the blessing that this defection has brought to you. The good news is that APC is taking over in 2019. So the good people of Boki follow suit and take the bull by the horn. This is a march that has just begun and we have come to change the political handwriting of Boki. The APC government of this country is very formidable and has a focus. Let me congratulate my brother Willie for taking this bold step for resigning his appointment and taking a decision for the good of your people. I assure you that we are with you physically and in prayers. God bless you and welcome to the family"
Highlights of the event include display from the Women Impact Network (WIN), Boki branch- an initiative of the distinguished senator, the official decoration of the chief decamped, Mr. Willie T by the APC state deputy publicity secretary, as well as a visit to the Council of Chiefs and elders of the entire Boki nation.
